This policy explains how AvenueX Store(“AvenueX”, “we”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our website and apps, in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 and applicable data-protection laws.

Who we are

AvenueX is a social e-commerce marketplace serving buyers and sellers, Kenya-first. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@avenuex.store.

Data we collect

Account & profile: name, username, email or phone, password (hashed), avatar, and seller/store details you add.
Content: listings, stories, campaigns, forms, community posts, reviews, and chat messages you create.
Location:approximate or precise location when you choose to share it (e.g. “sellers near you”, store/branch location).
Transactions: order and payment details processed through our payment partner (we do not store full card data).
Usage & device: pages viewed, interactions, device/browser info, and cookies or similar technologies.

How we use your data

To provide and secure your account and the marketplace.
To show listings, connect buyers with sellers, and enable chat.
To process orders and payments and prevent fraud.
To personalise discovery and, with your consent, send updates.
To meet legal obligations and resolve disputes.

Cookies & similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and local storage:

Essential(always on): keep you signed in (authentication/session) and process secure checkout. The site can't work without these, so they don't require consent.
Preferences: remember choices such as light/dark theme and your cookie selection.
Third-party: maps (Google Maps / Mapbox) and our payment provider may set their own cookies when those features load.
Imported products: when you click through to buy an imported item, the external retailer (e.g. AliExpress) sets its own cookies on its site under its own policy.

You can accept or limit optional cookies via the banner, and control or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Who we share data with

We share data only as needed to run the service: other users (e.g. a seller sees a buyer's message), our payment processor (Paystack), map providers (Google / Mapbox), infrastructure providers (hosting and database), and, for imported products, the relevant overseas retailer. We do not sell your personal data.

International transfers

Some providers process data outside Kenya. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure your data remains protected as required by the Data Protection Act, 2019.

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you may request to access, correct, delete, or port your data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email privacy@avenuex.store. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) of Kenya.

Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law, after which it is deleted or anonymised.

Children

AvenueX is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy and will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be communicated in-app.
